Help Host a Walk-a-Thon This Fall!

Each year, home school support groups around the state set aside a time to host a home school walk-a-thon in their community. Many have learned that this is a great way to raise money for their local support group and for the Education Alliance. The Education Alliance provides sponsor sheets and assistance with how to conduct the walk-a-thon. Home schoolers simply get people to sponsor them to walk a five-mile course. Local support group leaders collect the sponsor sheets and send them to the Education Alliance. The Education Alliance bills the sponsors. After the sponsors send the checks to the Education Alliance, we award prizes to walkers and split the remaining money with the local support group.

The Education Alliance Depends on Walk-a-Thon Donations to Help Us Carry On Our Home School Work in Arkansas.

Lots of people wish they could give more money to the Education Alliance. We agree!! Over the years, we’ve relied on these walk-a-thons to give us the financial boost we need to finish each year financially in the black. Quite frankly, donations from the home school community in Arkansas just aren’t enough for us to keep our doors open. We have to raise additional money in order to keep operating. By participating in a walk-a-thon, home schoolers who might not have an extra $50 to donate, can raise the money and help us just the same. Since we share the proceeds with the local support group, this is a great way to help your local support group as well.

Here’s More About How it Works

  1. Let us know when you want to have your walk-a-thon.
  2. We will send you sponsor sheets for walkers and suggestions on how to host a walk-a-thon.
  3. You encourage walkers to take sponsor sheets and start getting sponsors.
  4. You get everyone together at a park or elsewhere and walk 5 miles.
  5. You collect sponsor sheets on the day of the walk and send them to the Education Alliance
  6. We bill the sponsors by mail.
  7. We award prizes to the walkers
  8. We write your local support group a check for half the remaining amount and keep half.

More Information

  1. You don’t have to be a member of a local support group to get sponsors or win prizes.
  2. We provide the stability of an established organization as a sponsor of the walk-a-thon.
  3. Since we collect the money, walkers can ask for sponsorships from anyone anywhere.
  4. If you like, Melissa Savary, Director of the Education Alliance, can join you and walk with your group.
  5. You can make this as simple or as elaborate as you like. Invite everyone you know or just get some sponsors on your own and walk with your family. You can have a very successful walk-a-thon with just one walker as long as they get plenty of sponsors.

As we share the proceeds from these walk-a-thons we help one another and we help home schooling in your community and across Arkansas. Please lend a helping hand today!
